Jan Hooks: Dead at 57
Jan Hooks, primarly known for her role on Saturday Night Live, sadly passed away Thursday, October 9 supposedly from cancer. Her most recent role was on 30 Rock where she played the guest role of Verna Maroney. Jan Hooks is noted as being one of the stars of SNL that helped bring the low ratings at the time back up. Her many impressions include Bette Davis, Jodie Foster, Kathie Lee Gifford and Diane Sawyer. Hooks left the show in 1991 to go to the CBS sitcom Designing Women deciding to step down from the stressful role of performing live.
If you watched the episode of Saturday Night Live on October 11 where Bill Hader hosted, you might have seen the touching tribute presented by Hader and Kristen Wiig. She was also honoured in the Simpsons episode entitled “Super Franchise Me” for her character, Manjula Nahasapeempapetilon in the credits.
