Movie Review

Alice Through the Looking Glass

You will not be late for a very important date if you skip this movie sequel. The magic is missing from this movie that was directed by (James Bobin).

Mia Wasikowska is back as Alice, now a ship’s captain eager to vanquish pirates. She is dragged screaming and kicking back to London to help save her mother’s livelihood and deal with her nasty former suitor (Leo Bill) who is making life a living hell for her mom. Alice also finds time to leap through a looking glass and return to Wonderland.

All the players are here, Tweedledee/Tweedledum (Matt Lucas), the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen), the Cheshire Cat (Stephen Fry) and White Queen. Alice’s main concern is her friend the Hatter, again played by Johnny Depp, who makes eccentric madness look so natural. The Hatter is not himself, he is dying of sadness. As he is ravaged by guilt that he and not the evil, jumbo headed Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) is responsible for the death of his family.

What to do now? Alice must go back in time with a Time Machine stolen from Time himself and must set things right.

Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter give a great performance but it seems the other actors just go through the motions in comparison.

Final Thoughts

If you are a Johnny Depp fan you will love his antics but other than that I would not recommend this film.
