Billionaire Women Around The World
CNN reports that the newest list from Wealth-X has announced the wealthiest women around the world, who are worth a total of $114.6 billion.
Wal-Mart heiress Christy Walton is at the top as the wealthiest woman in the world. She has an estimated net worth of $37.9 billion.
In second place, Liliane Bettencourt of L’Oreal inheritance is worth $31.3 billion
The youngest woman on the list is 33-year-old Yang Huiyan, worth $6.3 billion. Her fortune was gained from her father transferring 70% of his shares in a Chinese real estate development firm to her.
Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim’s three daughters also each have $6.3 billion of their own.
Australian mining heiress Gina Rinehart, Israeli Shari Arison of Cruise Lines and Nigerian oil baron Folorunsho Alakija made the list, too, and it also includes Jacqueline Mars of the Mars Candy empire, Miuccia Prada, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs’ widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, and Harry Potter author, J. K. Rowling.
In all, there are 286 female billionaires world-wide and 2,039 male billionaires. Wealth-X reported that more than 65% of women billionaires inherited their wealth. The disparity between the number of female and male billionaires is staggering to me. There should be many more female billionaires!
