CYO Interview

CYO Interview with Vergina

1. When did you first start designing CYO?
Pfff that is a looong while ago. I guess in 2009, since that’s when I opened my shop.

2. What made you start designing CYO?
I saw other people do it and saw a fun possibility to show my creativity. I was also on another dress-up site which made designing easier, and from there the step to designing on DC wasn’t so big anymore. I only stuck with DC however

3. What is your favorite CYO piece that you have created?
That’s hard, there are quite some pieces I am proud of, most of them designs I made for Divamour. If I had to choose, I think it would be the koi-mermaid tail I made for the competition a few years ago.

4. What your biggest CYO accomplishment so far?
Completing all rounds of Divamour is quite an accomplishment for me already, but I think winning one round is my biggest.

5. What is the best thing about designing CYO?
Seeing something you have had in your mind come to live by your own hand. When it looks the way you want it, or even better, and seeing how other people like to use your designs.

6. How long does it take you to create a CYO piece?
I’m quite a slow designer I think. But it depends on how big and detailed the piece is. I think I’m the quickest at making shoes, which I usually do in about 30 minutes (for simple shoes). But I’ve also taken almost 2 full days to make a very detailed dress.

7. Who is your favorite CYO designer?
There are so many awesome designers, it’s hard to choose. But I’ve always been a major fan of Zumzy and Auntypat.

8. What’s one tip you can offer to new CYO designers?
‘Never give up’ is true, but a bit cliché, so I’ll say something else: add another layer of shadow/highlight. Always have at least two layers of both shadow and highlight (with different blurriness and opacity), but whenever you think ‘yes, this looks about finished’, just add another layer. If it doesn’t look good, you can just remove it again, but in my experience, it makes the design look better 90% of the time.
