Do It Yourself

Homemade Ornaments

Tis the season! Happy Holidays! This issue I am making painting clear, plastic, ornaments with nail polish!

Things You Will Need

  • Clear Ornament
  • Nail Polish (I used Cinderella by Sinful Colors)
  • 3/8 inch ribbon
  • Yarn Needle
  • Mason jar (I have a red plastic cup pictured, but that is a TERRIBLE idea. The nail polish melted the bottom of the cup.)

Take the top off the ornament and place the ornament on top of the mason jar. Carefully pour the nail polish into the ornament

With the surface covered, carefully pour the nail polish into the ornament

Swirl around the ornament, spreading the nail polish around. This process can be tedious and slightly time consuming. So, make sure you have plenty of free time. Also, depending on your nail polish it may dry quickly and you will have to use more.

Once done swirling the polish you can either hold it carefully and let the excess drain back into the bottle. Or, if you are like me, and don’t really care(I didn’t like this polish anyway. It took to many coats) just tip it upside down in the jar. Let dry for at least 12 hours. Once again no red plastic cups. The nail polish eats through it. Such a terrible idea.

This last step is just for decorative purposes. I used the yarn needle to widen the hole in the topper and carefully used it to poke the ribbon through. Once the ribbon was in I put the hook back through and wrapped the ribbon around the hook to hide it. I finised in off with a bow.

I am sorry there is no finished photo of the ornament with the Cinderella color. Due to the cup breaking the ornament got messed up. But once I get another ornament finished I will post a photo of it in the comments.
