Our trip this week is to Kauai. Kauai is known as the Garden Island because it has the wettest climate and is the most lush of all of the Hawaiian islands. It is the oldest island so over eons of time, the wind and rain have sculpted the landscape into some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. From the pinnacles of the Na Pali Coast to the deep carved valleys of Waimea Canyon, the island will blow you away with its beauty. I can vouch for that as I went there in 2012.
Wild chickens are found all over the island. There is a rumor that states the hurricane Iniki,/i> that was in 1992 destroyed a chicken farm and they were involuntarily released.
Kauai is a favorite destination for Hollywood filmmakers as everything from South Pacific and Blue Hawaii to Jurassic Park and the Pirates of the Caribbean just to name a few had scenes based in this beautiful location.
Kauai is the fourth-largest Hawaiian island. The island is 33 miles long and 25 miles wide.
There are three major resort areas, Poipu, Kapaa and Hanalei/Princeville and they all welcome honeymooners, vacationers and people celebrating their anniversary.
If you visit, you must go on a helicopter ride without doors. “Awesome” is just mildly put. You fly over the remote, rugged interior and isolated coastline. You will fly over waterfalls and summit of Mt. Waialeale, which is the wettest spot on the face of the Earth averaging 480 inches of rain a year.
There is so much to do, ocean rafting, sunset cruises, kayaking, climbing rugged cliffs, sea caves, waterfalls, luaus, and visit the most beautiful coast, Na Pali Coast. Just awesome!
Then another place to visit is Kauai Coffee Plantation. You are invited to try each flavor of coffee that they brew. You can buy the coffee there or have it shipped to your home. Once tasted, you will not want another brand, trust me. How does Coconut Caramel Crunch or my all time favorite Toasty Banana Nut Cream sound?
In summary, this was truly the best place to visit. Highly recommended! The
pics above are of: Waimea Canyon, Wailua River State Park, and Birds of Paradise.
Kauai is truly a beautiful island and there is so much to see. It is a bit pricey but if you can afford to visit, go!!
