One Step Summer Smoothie

As a summer staple in my house, smoothies cool me down and fill me up. They work as snacks or even just for breakfast. I prefer to make mine with strawberries, bananas, and almond milk, but this simple recipe is perfect for customizing. My recipe is extremely minimalist. I use frozen berries in lieu of ice to thicken the smoothie, but if you use fresh berries I recommend ice.

*Note: you will need a blender or hand emulsifier for this recipe.

1 ripe banana
1 cup of frozen strawberries
¾ cup almond milk
Optional: 1 tbsp milled flaxseed

1. Put all ingredients into blender and blend on highest setting (high/ice crush/frappe etc.) until smooth. If using hand emulsifier, put ingredients in a cup that won’t break and blend using the emulsifier.

If the smoothie is too thin for your liking, add more strawberries (or even flaxseeds if you used them as I noticed they help in thickening.) Too thick? Pour in more milk.

This recipe is best served immediately after blending. Feel free to replace strawberries with blueberries/raspberries/blackberries or any other fruit you’d like. Add in fresh kale or spinach to make it healthier. Not a fan of almond milk? Use cow, soy, or goat milk.

Final Thoughts

As my favorite summer cool down drink, this smoothie is the quickest thing I've found to start my day off right. Cool, fresh, and just the right about of sweetness, this one step smoothie is summer in a glass.
