Movie Review

The Village

This is an older movie from 2004, but I believe it is still worth the watch. It is another movie from M. Night Shyamalan, so as you can expect, it is a movie with a guaranteed twist ending at the end of the film. This cast includes Joaquin Phoenix, William Hunt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Adrien Brody and Sigourney Weaver.

We start in what appears to be an older period, considering the lifestyle and the clothing people are wearing. It also seems to be a secluded village with a significantly small population. The type of village where you know everyone and everyone knows you. Our title characters are Lucius, Ivy, and Noah. The beginning of the film entitles Lucius wishing to go through the woods, to the city, to obtain some materials. He is not allowed. It appears strange that no one is allowed through the forest into the city, until we realize it is because of the village’s dire fear of the evil that is within the forest. They fear that if anyone was to intrude on these evil creatures that live within, they will come out and attack. For this reason, everyone is stuck within this small village, unable to explore the beyond.

The film continues on as there are love triangles which results in someone getting stabbed and requires these medicinal tools that are only available in the city. Crushed, this individual’s love interest wanders through the forest, to get into the city and get the medicine he needed to survive. This person also happens to be blind. Who are these individuals I am talking about? And does she get the permission to get through? What happens? Watch and you will find out! I do not want to spoil anything for you until you see the entire film!

Plot Twist
Final Thoughts

I cannot get enough of books or movies that have major plot twists. I live for them! I had high expectations for this one, and I wasn’t too disappointed with what I got.
